Many school systems believe that the only effective way for students to learn is through direct instruction. This isn’t the only way, but it is the most common way throughout America. Direct instruction is the easiest way for teachers to instruct to a whole group and students are used to this type of instruction. But that style of teaching isn’t exactly the best way for students to learn and retain information. One of the most effective ways for students to learn is through differentiated instruction. Differentiated instruction is a framework for effective teaching that involves providing different students with different avenues to learn. This style of instruction allows for the curriculum to adapt to certain needs and interests of individual students. (Bravmann) Making this instruction one of the most effective styles of teaching. It also gives both the teachers and the students more of an opportunity to learn in different ways that will help them to be successful in the long run. Since this type of instruction involves a ton of work many teachers don’t use it because they don’t have the time but it is really worth the time, especially for the students who don’t learn like everyone else when it comes to direct instruction.
